I haven’t really done much in the way for the kids’ lunches in a bit. Sure every now and again I’ve bought Lunchable’s on sale or something like that, but I haven’t really gone so far as to make them Bento’s.
I figured… that I have to keep myself busy to keep myself from laying down in bed and being all weepy. Yes, I know, I am a bit of a wuss because I miss Aussie so badly… but, while my body goes through withdrawals of being able to wrap my toes back against his as I fall asleep, snuggle up next to his warmth, listen to him breathe if he falls asleep first, feel the soft feeling of how he rubs my feet if I need it.. I need busy work!
What best for busy work than something that can keep me occupied in a way that doesn’t leave me constantly glancing at the clock? Bento’s work well that way, because it’s hard to keep looking at the clock when you’re trying to make sure your kids’ lunches look cute.
For all of the girls I use 2-tiered Bento’s, and Var just uses a single tiered box. Usually because he has a ‘hard time putting it back together’ and it had caused him some stress before. Last thing anyone wants is stress during a lunch break.
So, what you don’t see in the 3 Bento’s on the right (Lisi’s, Sisi’s, and Kat’s) is the under tier with rice and Furikake. I don’t really do a ton decorating on the rice layer sometimes… but try and make up for it in the top layer.
Lunch tomorrow is rice with Furikake, Octopus hot dogs – complete with punched in eyes using the back of a skewer which is laying on a bed of seasoned spinach, broccoli cooked in chicken stock and seasoned with Furikake, and then some Jaffa’s… for a treat, and some color. There is too much green in the boxes! So I needed some red, but didn’t have anything to put in there. They have a Fruitables juicebox to drink as well. So that they get even more fruit/vegetable goodness.
Anyway, off with me! It’s story time, and for now I am filling in for Aussie in the story telling/reading. Then off to bed with the kiddos… and Sociology homework for me. @_@
Ja matta-ashita! (See you tomorrow!)
