There’s something truly special about giving someone a gift they never expected — especially when that someone is related to you.
I have a special family member who’s birthday is coming up within the next few months and I don’t usually buy jewelry for people but I recently saw her looking at pearl necklaces when we were together somewhere. So, after actually finding myself a ring I love not overly long ago I felt in a jewelry shopping mood. I couldn’t really buy her a ring without asking for her ring size. But that’ll spoil the surprise! She’s hitting a milestone birthday and it seems high time I surprise her with something as lovely as she is.
So I decided: I was going to surprise her with a pearl necklace.
It’s very easy to get a bit of choice paralysis when shopping don’t you think? There are so many ways a necklace can look and trying to find one that suits someone you love can be daunting if I’m perfectly honest!
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go with something more classic and timeless, or if I wanted something a bit more dainty.

Overall it’s a hard choice, this person dresses with lots of colors, patterns, and textures. She’s a very noticeable person when it comes to her sense of style. Where I am more reserved and it can be hard to step out of my own comfort zone when I am shopping for someone. Let alone for something as pretty as pearl necklaces tend to be, but despite that I worry if I go to simple it may not go with what she tends to wear.
Before even looking at options, I had to ask myself a few things:
-
Do I want something classic or more modern?
-
Will this be for everyday wear or special occasions?
-
Would this be something she’d wear and not just put aside?
In my case, I wanted something versatile – something simple enough for her less flashy days, but still able to hold its own with one of her more exciting outfits. A necklace that would sit close to the collarbone felt just right: not too long, not too bold, just quietly elegant.
I found that there are even black pearl necklaces! And you know what, I ended up to get one for myself, because I love the look of them and think they fit my overall style and fashion choices pretty darn well. What do you think? Do you prefer classic white pearls or a different color entirely?

There are so many styles and ways someone can make pearl necklaces! I found some gorgeous ones all over the internet and I was so excited once I finally narrowed it down to one that I think will be positively stunning on her!
Picking out a necklace for her really came down to finding a necklace that spoke to me. One that felt like a celebration of her, one that would fit regardless of what she decided to wear it with.
Note to anyone reading this: If you’ve been thinking about surprising someone you love, don’t wait for the perfect moment. Sometimes just because is the best reason of all. Remember, Pearls are timeless and beautiful. They go with everything so it’d hard to go wrong! If you’re thinking about getting a pearl necklace for yourself or as a gift I totally recommend it. Just be ready to fall a little in love with how effortlessly pretty they are.
