It’s been awhile since I’ve had a piece of jewelry I feel like I can wear every day. Something that says ‘this is me’ but without being too fancy, or without being metal and almost flimsy feeling. When I discovered The Leakey Collection I knew I had finally found a type of necklace that was beautiful, me, and not metal. Also… metal hurts when you have a baby who likes to pull at your necklaces, so I needed something different!
Even better? The jewelry pieces are handcrafted by the Maasai women of Kenya! October is Fair Trade month, and the Fair Trade Federation is a trade association that fairly trades products from poor regions, helping the people in these areas have work, provide for their families and change their lives for the better.
Every purchase from the Leakey Collection helps the artisans in the Rift Valley of Kenya, East Africa enrich their lives.
The Leakey Collection was started by the husband and wife duo Philip and Katy Leakey, and I’m happy to have come across their website.
I picked out a mutli-strand necklace, though I have to say it was hard to pick any one thing to feature here. There are so many beautiful things offered through the Leakey Collection, and the outreach to help those in Kenya is so amazing, that choosing was difficult! I could write post after post of all the beautiful things I would love to introduce you all too. But instead, I am going to urge you to check out their site, and see for yourself the wonderful pieces they have.
The holidays are coming even, and The Leakey Collection has many things that would make a gift that is not only beautiful, but helps those in need. Why buy another cheap trinket someplace when you could buy beauty and help someone in the process?
I plan on being able to eventually get each of the girls a necklace from The Leakey Collection, there is a multi-strand necklace that I believe could fit each of their personalities and color likes, and I’ll feel good knowing that I helped in the lives of someone in the process. There are also home products, that I want to be able to incorporate in some way, but I’m not sure how just yet. I’ll figure it out for sure! 🙂
