Kat Goes Rainbow!

Spread the love

Well aside from Sis’s blue, Lisi has a pink streak and Kat has been begging me to get around to doing her rainbow. Minus yellow, because “I’m already blonde, so, no yellow” which was okay, I don’t know how I would have managed SEVEN colors! Six was bad enough! Well not bad, just… interesting. I am NOT a professional hair dresser or anything like that. The only real experience I have in dying hair is my own, and every so often I used to dye or bleach my ex-husbands.

Nothing to the extent of what the girls wanted!

Sis went all blue, as you saw in my other post, Lisi has a streak which I haven’t shown yet but I will soon when I add her second streak tomorrow. Var will have a couple of blue streaks come tomorrow and I’ll share that when I share Lisi’s too.

So, rainbow hair! Wow, this was… an interesting experience in patience. I was cooking dinner (okay okay the oven and rice cooker were,) dying her hair, and trying to fend of ‘the babies’ (which is code-word for Lisi and Var, ‘the girls’ means Kat and Sis!) from asking me to do 50-million things while I attempted this. @_@

Sadly, I didn’t even THINK to start taking pictures until she asked what the back was looking like! This was when the purple and blue were already covered in dye. I then covered the dyed portions in a store bag which was held in place with a hair band to keep the hair up and away from getting everything a mess!

Purple is the very bottom layer, though I am sure you can tell by the stained bags! Hah!

I tend to get somewhat funky pictures of her at times, her nose doesn’t usually look that wide at the bottom. o.O I did just a funky pictures. Still, it’s so hard to get her (pre-teen!) to smile in pictures so I just HAD to share!

“Hi mom, can you hurry up already???”

Not really, she took the entire process fairly well to be honest. Even though I was being a giant dork during the whole thing!

Oh my gosh we’re finally getting there! I liked the view from the side and wanted her to see. Purple, Blue, Green, Orange, Red and… the top was going pink. I did manage to get most of the dye off of her skin.

It seems my petroleum jelly has disappeared so I didn’t have a barrier. Oii…

The orange did come out a lighter orangey-yellow, so looks like we got a bit of a yellow even though we didn’t really intend on it. Still, it wasn’t that bad.

“You mean I really have to wait an hour?”

Yes, I made her wait an hour after putting in the last color. Doesn’t she look so thrilled? At least we got to eat right after this!

After a very long rinse out and simple shampoo process,we decided to mostly blow-dry her hair dry because we’re impatient and really wanted to see the results! Of course we do, that was a lot of waiting already and I wanted to see if I manage not to mess this up completely. @_@ Scary!

Not bad at all!
Though the red seems to blend in a little with the pink right now, you can see the layers of colors right here from the back! I really like the way this looks on her! She’s thrilled with the results and said “I’m really glad I made this decision!”

I am not at all sure why my camera decided that the pink should look a bit purple-y in this picture. But it’s not really that purple-y! @_@ Still, you can tell she’s actually happy… She’s smiling in a picture and I didn’t have to chase her down!
Not that I’d do that.
Okay, because I learned my lesson I don’t do that. >.>
She looks so grown up here!! Stop it Kat! You’re not supposed to grow up yet! You’re making me feel old! All of you! *sob* (kidding!)
What?
Of course you know what I wanted to see after this?
A braid!
Although it’s a really quickly thrown together braid and I swear I’ll attempt better in the morning, I just wanted to see how it would look. I like it!
Thankfully she did too! Whew!

I am loving the orange in here! I’m reminded a little of rainbow bright, though she is more reminded of Rainbow Dash from My Little Ponies.
Well, whatever she’s reminded of, I think it looks awesome and she rocks it!
Since I didn’t bleach her hair or actually any of the kids’ hair before doing the funky colors, they aren’t going to stay near as long as the color I put in my own hair. That’s okay, because the bleach is a lot harsher on their hair so I can’t really justify doing that to them just yet.
The dye is from two different brands, SPLAT and Punky Colour.
SPLAT dyes are pink, red, and blue. Punky Colour is the purple, green and orange. Why the differences? Well, SPLAT is cheaper, and I already had the blue from it for when I had bought some to try on myself (which then got used on Sis as did part of the bottle that was used for Kat here…), and SPLAT comes with it’s own bleach included so I figured I’d buy some of it so I could use the bleach on myself over time, without having to replenish my stock of cream developer and powder blue.
SPLAT blue seems to be standing up fairly well in Sis’s unbleached hair, and we’ll see how their red and pink does here in Kat’s hair. Red tones have a really hard time sticking in hair, even BLEACHED hair has a hard time hanging on to funky red and pinks.
Well, I’m slacking on doing reading for an essay for history, so for now I must run! @_@ Tell me what you think of Kat’s hair hmm?

    1. It does remind me of a couple different My Little Ponies, and she thinks it’s kind of close to the current Rainbow Dash’s hair!
