Challenges For A New Year.

Spread the love

Let’s start this new year old with a little story shall we?

Between the October of 2010 and October 2011 I managed to go from 203lbs to 150lbs.

For the first time in far too long I was so happy with my appearance.

Looking good!
Looking good!

I fit in size 10 clothing and hadn’t been happier in a very long time! I’d been 200-203 since I’d had Lisi back in May of 2006. So it was a big thing to finally get down to a happier weight.

In roughly April 2012 I started Abilify to help my usual Celexa for my depression. Abilify caused me to be constantly hungry to the point that if I didn’t eat, and lots, I was physically ill and would throw up. But I was so desperate for it to work and to feel better emotionally that I kept going. It had to help right? Plus my doctor had said that it was a medication that didn’t cause weight gain, like I’d specifically asked for. Nothing that would make me overly hungry.

She lied.

By the time I reached the end of 2012 I was 224lbs. The heaviest I’ve ever been in my entire life, and I hated myself to no end. I didn’t want to go outside, and I tried not eating as much but the Abilify made that a big mistake. It was February of 2013 that I finally decided I’d had enough of the Abilify and I quit it. I needed it to just go away and stop making being healthy damn near impossible.

It was then that I got pregnant with Risi.

Thankfully, without the Abilify and by being careful (not starving myself, but not just eating whatever and all the damned time) I was “only” 235 by the time Risi was born November 5th 2013.

I was 214 quickly enough, but allowed myself to eat whatever for the Holidays as one ‘final huzzah!’ and then gained back another 3lbs. Well, what do you expect when you eat half a pan of Baklava and generally don’t care? Honestly I am lucky it was so little all things considered.

To this point, my biggest challenge of the new year is to get back down to that 150lbs I so loved being. I will get to wear those size 10’s and 12’s I still have hiding in my closet in hopes that I can do this.

I’m  not starting right away of course. January 6th 2014 though? It’s on! This isn’t merely a ‘New year resolution’ this is a commitment, a challenge for me to be better.

I’m also going to challenge myself to do the following things again:

  • Make the kids clothes
  • Do more nail art
  • Draw
  • Paint
  • Sing
  • Clean
  • Cook
  • Sleep
  • Love
  • Smile
  • Laugh
  • and last but not least – RELAX!

What are your challenges for yourself for the new year?

Things you will give all your power not to give up on? I’d love to know what things you all plan on trying to bring forth this year.

  1. Congratulations on the birth of your little one! And best of luck with your resolutions! My big resolution is similar. I’m not looking so much to lose weight, but to live an all around healthier and more active lifestyle.

  2. Way To Go! You’re look great and I am proud of you for taking the steps to living a better life with depression. As a person with bipolar I understand it can be hard to talk to doctors sometimes but only you know what’s right for your body. Keep positive and you will be successful throughout all your challenges. Here’s to a happy new year!!

  3. When you have a new year resolution, you have to make it. This one is a common one most of us make it every year then leave it in first month it self. Good luck to you.

  4. Congratulations on your new addition. How exciting for you. I had to take a medication that made me really sick if i didn’t eat, and eat a lot too. I was extremely worried about putting on the weight. I made it a point to keep good health things in the house so that when the time came, I could grab those health items and take care of the immediate need. It seemed to work. And now I seem to be suck on some of those habits I picked up along the way. Good luck with your resolution!

  5. You can do it girl! We all bounce around with our weight, it’s obnoxious. I’m still trying to get myself out of the 188 – 190 range I’ve been sitting at for months, but it’s so much easier said than done. I hope 2014 brings you lots of success, I’ll be following along here and cheering you on!

  6. I have heard SO MANY people talk about being hungry on anti-depressants. Then you feel depressed about your weight and eating struggles and what good are the meds? It is a hard thing to balance but you have such a great plan and good outlook that I have complete faith in you! I hope that you blog about doing the things on your list!

  7. Good for you!! You look great and should be proud of how far you go! My challenges this year is to loose weight (i’m the heaviest I’ve ever been!) and curve my sugar addiction! Its going to be hard but I’m hoping to make a lifestyle change not a diet this time! I’m going to add in working out if I can get motivated!

    1. I looked great but I am too the heaviest I’ve ever been. You’re right it’s more of a lifestyle change than a diet. My goal isn’t to get down as small as possible. Just to my happy weight of 150!
I’m going to practice moderation, not cutting out anything completely. Just, one serving, more so of things that are treats! Moderation is key. 🙂

  8. Congrats on your little one..
My body has normalized to a no meat diet. Took 5 days. Days 2 and 3 we’re rough as I made a significant protein shift to cottage cheese, tofu, my system wasn’t so happy.

Feeling great, lost a few pounds already, and am starting to normalize on this diet. I have no idea how long I’ll do it. Hoping I’ll lose some weight without changing my exercise routine of only walking 30min a day

    1. 5 days to normalize isn’t too bad at all! I was vegetarian for about 6 months many years ago, I couldn’t keep it up as I really started craving chicken and shrimp again. They’re my two favorite meats!

  9. Congrats on the weight control, and your sweet little baby. You actually have some of the same goals as myself blog wise. I need to do more nail art, and more art and crafts, more DIY. I want to post more about home schooling my kids but its a little hard coming up with good content. Maybe I should just start writing…

    1. I want to also try and teach my oldest two how to use the sewing machine I gave the oldest! Best of luck with your nail art and general arts and crafts! 😀

  10. Love the list, I enjoyed reading it. For 2014 I would add peace to my list. I live in Colorado and in the past lived with fires and flood, I ready to be peaceful again.

  11. If you did it before you could do it again! Good luck on your new goals. I’m trying to eat healthier foods too, I just don’t care about my weight anymore. Hehe 🙂
